A NEW WAY TO USE INTEGRATED DEVICES
The updated Alexa App Smart Home section lets you view the state and control your smart lights, locks and thermostats. When you are on-the go, use the app to quickly check the status of your lock or turn off your lights. You can also navigate to the device’s settings page to rename the device or disable it. The new Multi-Room Music section allows users to designate a group for devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Once created, group names can be used to control music playback. The new Routines section allows users to automate a series of Smart Home and audio actions with one custom command. The new capabilities are available to customers with phones on Android 5.0 or later.

CONNECT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS
With the Alexa App, you can call and message Amazon Echo device owners and anyone else with the Alexa App on their phones. When you’re away from home, use the app to make a quick call or send a message to your family’s Echo. Use Drop In to instantly connect with your devices for a call. For example, you can drop in to let the family know it’s time for dinner or check in on the baby’s nursery.

ALWAYS READY, CONNECTED, AND FAST
For Alexa device owners, the free Amazon Alexa App is a companion to your Alexa device for setup, remote control, and enhanced features. Alexa is always ready to play your favorite music, provide weather and news updates, answer questions, create lists, and much more. Alexa's brain is in the cloud, so she continually learns and adds more functionality over time. The more you use Alexa, the more she adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences.

HOW IT WORKS
Interactions with devices with Alexa are automatically mirrored visually on your Amazon Alexa App, providing more information as you want it. The Amazon Alexa App lets you easily manage your alarms, music, shopping lists, and more -- wherever you are.

FAST WI-FI and EASY SET UP
Connect to your home's Wi-Fi network using the free Amazon Alexa App, with its simple guided setup. Now you can stream all of your music, listen to radio stations, and have access to news and information, all by voice -- or with the Amazon Alexa App's intuitive interface.

Alexa is an incredible concept - and it works! MOST OF THE TIME. Frequently have to repeat commands because they either don't work or work only partially. For example, "alexa, turn off stairs" may not work at all sometimes, or may result in only one of the two lights in that group being turned off. Sometimes alexa can't seem to do anything! STILL, it mostly works and when it does it is a great convenience. Also, NO ONE makes smart light bulbs that are bright enough! For a bright environment you will need to use additional bulbs. Well, the set up is straight forward. You need to ask the questions as dead on as u can or she either ignore the question or selects the wrong song/play list. I have been using the timer & reminder function for cooking. And of course to not to forget to do something. It is a matter of getting familiar with the settings. The music part is handy for work or for relaxing. The best parts are asking for the time, weather, questions that come to you out of nowhere. As example, recipes for parties. You can have the recipes sent to your phone so don't need to search for pen or paper. Keep in mind as always there are many things you can do with this app. You can listen to weather, keep up with the news by going to the My Skills section. This app is the backbone of Alexa. Once set up & paired it can be a very helpful app. For the one star reviewers to me you need to keep in mind new features are added as the app evolves. Full Review

Terrible connectivity, difficult to integrate for consistent operation of firetv. Attempting another reinstall to see if this changes anything. Things really hit the fan after I installed the iOS version and tried to switch off between ipad and Android phone for control. Major development failures here, don't waste your time. Full Review

The new music alarm is great. However I can't seem to find where to control the volume for this function. It's not the same volume control as where you would find in the normal 'reminders and alarms' section so the volume of the music pulled from my prime music or even on Pandora just wakes me up at a very loud volume. Would be nice to be able to control how loud the content plays in the alarm, not just one set volume where I wake up with a heart attack. It also doesn't turn on from the last volume setting, the volume could be set to 3 but the music alarm turns on to volume 7. Please fix. Full Review

It's ok, not the simplest UI and it has a long way to go to interface with Spotify and Sonos. Alexa doesn't find many albums I specify and will play some random ones. Many of the skills are useless I only use hive to control lights. Needs big improvements to keep up with new Google equivalent. Full Review

Need to be optimised for Indian users. I try to listen to music on my echo dot, but prime music doesn't have much Hindi, Telugu, Tamil music collection. Should expand the music Indian music library in prime music. I couldn't add address of an location in Hyderabad. So lot of features like traffic, weather updates are not available to me. It's been just a day of usage. I will update review with shortcomings in future as I use. Full Review

Well it doesn't look like a native app and seems it runs a website beneath and is slow. The echo device is great once setup. But the setup process is too painful and annoying. During setup at times it just doesn't recognize wifi networks. If I change my wifi passpord, running the whole setup is too difficult. The app ( or rather the website undeneath app ) also gets unresponsive sometimes in few setup screens, specially after the app connects to echo and it shows a 'Continue' button which doesn't respond. EDIT: I got a new echo Dot and setup is hung up on step showing 'Attempting to connect to echo dot'. The phone got connected to the dots WiFi but nothing happens in setup process. Setup is just too painful. Full Review

Fantastic app... Brings the Alexa experience to life. Though, I am using it to manage my smart home and wish it had a way to delete or forget all devices easily. It becomes a challenge to manage multiple devices from multiple areas i.e. using a hub and a configuration using a skill directly from the manufacturer is not easy to do anymore Full Review

Bottom line? I'm uninstalling the app and returning the useless Amazon Echo. Take my advice, if you're looking for a home automation go with Google Home! Full Review

Good app for now, but needs lots of improvements, first of all the app response is slow. Not sure why is that, but you have to wait quite a few seconds for the app to load and then use its features. Also it does not have the feature to play music from It's music player. One should be able. To browse for music from the recently played tracks and then play them at any time. Also, as of now Alexa does not support chat or voice msg or calling feature to any other Alexa user, which should be there. I assume that amazon will work on the issues and make it better for Indian users. Full Review

Why only allow 2 household users!? We have more than 2 people in the house that want to use the app to add their own shopping lists etc. It makes it literally pointless for anyone else to install the app. Also it should recognise different voices instead of having to switch profile, stupid. Stupid as hell. Learn a thing or two from Google, they don't restrict you like this. Oh and the app is too slow to navigate. Full Review

Amazon refuses to let uses remove items from a list stating security reasons, yet anyone can add to a list. This is b.s.. also they took away the ability to remove items from your smart home and replaced it with a disable option. Stop taking away things we need and refusing to provide is with the options we want. We purchased the product, not your high and mighty opinion. You have turned a useful smart home interface into a garbage collecting bin which you will probably use to try to shovel more you wanted items down our throats. Knock this off or I'll be switching over to Google home. Full Review

The new GUI is horrible (for home automation). Who ever was in charge before had some sense of automation in general, the new guy /team not that much. Alexa app is not far off from a DeviceNet scanner, with auto discovery and node addition enabled. The major flaw from start was / is that once a scan list is created you do not want the scanner to go out and keep adding devices on its own (locked scan list) unless you tell it so (discover new devices). In the older GUI you could tell because it was list based (why not have an option to switch between list and tiles like Windows had) what device and what hub it belongs to without opening multiple Windows. Before you could delete devices from scan list so you can pinpoint where (what hub) you want to control the device from. Now you have a disable option where you can not edit the name or delete the device. The design team should look for functionality and user friendly interface. Alexa app is the heart, the connecting point for voice commands in home automation. Once users get things setup the way they want and all works as it should, why keep screwing it up with pointless modifications? Full Review

Dedicated to music only. Atleast in India. We already have Bluetooth speakers with battery. Very less people use smart lights. They are not working on local business like hospitals, medical store, hotels nearby. They even did not let us write review on amazon saying product yet to be released. Definitely not for Indian market. I did not returned it hoping amazon may work to make it user friendly as per India but they are not serious about it. Just import and sell strategy not expected from Amazon. Full Review
